A Candlelight Musical Extravaganza at Manchester Cathedral

By Friends & Family, Gigs & Shows, Happiness & Joy, Music & RadioNo Comments

Tonight Mum, Hien and I went to see a string quartet from String Infusion perform at Manchester Cathedral. The evening was promoted as a musical sensory experience, with two performances. One of ABBA songs and one of Whitney Houston songs. Here are some photos from the evening, click on any photo for full size image:

We had a fantastic evening. The performance was exceptional in every sense of the word.

We need things to look forward to. I am a big believer in this. For mum and I one of our loves is a good musical. We’ve recently seen Bedknobs & Broomsticks and 9 to 5. Both were seen at Manchester’s Palace Theatre and both were brilliant.

Bedknobs & Broomsticks was magical, marvellous and spectacular. Everything about it was wonderful, the cast and singing, the chorography, the costume and the props which included puppets.

9 to 5 was equally thrilling. A great cast, fantastic chorography and hilariously funny as well. It even had cameo video appearances from Dolly Parton.

And we’ve got this to look forward to in January 2023:

Matilda at Manchester Palace Theatre

By Friends & Family, Gigs & Shows, Happiness & JoyNo Comments

At the weekend, my mum, Kelly, my mum’s friend and her daughter went to see Matilda at Manchester Palace Theatre. We arrived before the matinee performance and had lunch out.

In Matilda the cast, mostly made up of children, were fantastic. The set was superb. The storyline followed that of the film. I’m not sure how closely it follows the book, as I’ve never read it.

The songs were good, but the show lacked any defining and memorable songs. Usually in a musical there is at least one catchy and memorable song. For example in Wicked you have defying gravity. In The Rocky Horror Show you have Time Warp and Sweet Transvestite. In Sister Act you have Take Me To Heaven and Fabulous, Baby!

Overall Matilda was an enjoyable show for children and adults alike. Here are some photos:
