Film Review: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

By Amazon, TV, Online Streaming & FilmsNo Comments

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the third and final film in the Guardians trilogy. It’s focus is Rocket’s story. Rocket is severely injured, but the life-saving med packs won’t work because Rocket has a dead man’s switch inside of him.

The Guardians come together and set out on their mission: to get the code to disable the dead man’s switch, so that they can save Rocket’s life.

What follows is an action packed adventure.

It was a good film. But for me it wasn’t as funny as the previous films, the writers and directors instead focusing on action scenes that went on and on. Rather than the banter spattered throughout the previous films.

There was one particularly annoying scene after Groot had been decapitated and was a head walking on roots, suddenly appeared whole bodied again without showing how he managed this. This was just poor editing.

The film was meant to tug at your heart strings and invoke an emotional response, but it just didn’t do it for me. The selection of music in the film was superb.

Theme Hospital Reinvented – Two Point Hospital

The classic Theme Hospital simulation game has been reinvented with the new name Two Point Hospital. I’ve watched the trailer (below), viewed screen shots and watched game play on YouTube.

It appears that they have taken the best bits of Theme Hospital and put them into Two Point Hospital. That they have improved some features of the original. Along with adding many fantastic new features. Most of all, they have kept that wacky sense of humour associated with Theme Hospital.

Last Weekend: The Man Date & The Family BBQ

By Friends & Family, Happiness & JoyNo Comments

Last weekend was great. I had my semiregular Man Date with a straight friend on Saturday. We dined in style at a posh place, caught up and then went back to his for more talk and brews.

I went to my mum’s for a family BBQ on Sunday with glorious summer weather. It was fantastic for the extended family to get together and have time to talk and connect.

This has been my mantra for the last few weeks, it’s how I feel and what I’ve told to anyone that will listen:

This weekend I’m going to see La Cage Aux Folles with Simon and Chrys and to see Despicable Me 3 with Steve. Here’s a trailer for Despicable Me 3:

Mary Poppins Live at The Palace Theatre, Manchester: Marvellous, Magical and Magnificent

Mary Poppins: Outside The Palace Theatre, Manchester.

Me Outside The Palace Theatre, Manchester.

At the weekend, I went to see a matinee performance of Mary Poppins with a group of people. Mary Poppins live at The Palace Theatre, Manchester was marvellous, magical and magnificent.

On the way to the theatre, I saw a homeless man outside a shop. I did my good deed and bought him something to eat. It wasn’t much, but it was something. I always remind myself how fortunate I am when I see someone homeless. Anyone could end up homeless. All it takes is bad circumstances and some not great choices.

Once seated, the lights dimmed and the show began. The set was brilliant, switching between scenes fluidly. Sets included the victorian style living & drawing rooms, the Nursery, the park and the roof tops. There was also a vibrant and colourfully lit imaginary world that Mary Poppins’ takes the children to.

The performers were all on top form. Special mention must be made of the two children in the cast, each who played their role superbly. Singing by main characters was acceptable, dancing by all performers were in perfect time throughout, with everyone on their marks. The plot was familiar, with the odd addition, but kept its magical elements. The songs were captivating and have remained in my head, days after seeing the show.

If you like a spoon full of sugar, I’d highly recommend you go see Mary Poppins. Here’s the trailer for the show:
