TV – Torchwood: Miracle Day, Episode 1

By TV, Online Streaming & FilmsNo Comments

A few weeks ago I saw an trailer for Torchwood on the BBC and got all excited. Torchwood was coming back on the TV! I immediately series linked it. I was surprised as Torchwood: Children of Earth (available at Amazon and all good retailers) was suppose to be the last series and what a series it was. It had tention, drama, action, emotions and a lot of death. In deed many of the main characters were killed off as it was the last series. Apart from Captain Jack (played by John Barrowman) who is immortal and doesn’t age, and Gwen Cooper who if I remember correctly was just lucky.

So what did Torchwood: Miracle Day, Episode 1 have in store for us? The story starts in America with people who should be dead unable to die. For the first ten minutes we see CIA characters, none of which we know, and only get a glimpse of Gwen’s quite life in rural Wales. She’s now got a baby with Rhys (her long standing partner) and they live “off the radar”, well until Miracle Day happens – were people all over the world simply can’t die.

When Captain Jack finally appears he is looking good (Well the actor John Barrowman is, you can see my love for him by the post tag: John Barrowman). Captain Jack swings in to action as an email saying one word TORCHWOOD is sent out at the exact time Miracle Day starts. Captain Jack must protect Gwen at all costs as the CIA start to investigate Torchwood. What follows is a mix of action and drama, with a really good action scene involving Jack driving a 4×4 on a Wales beach being chased by a helicopter with men in black shooting at them. Gwen rocket launches the helicopter and it comes flying at them before crashing on the beach. At one point Captain Jack gets cut and he suddenly realises, he’s not immortal and indestructible any more. Usually he would have healed, but suddenly he realises it’s reversed. Jack is mortal whereas the rest of the world is immortal.

Episode 1 ends with Captain Jack, Gwen and her family being arrested and extradited to the US by a CIA agent. The format has some similarities and differences to the previous series of Torchwood. Similar is the way it starts off with something happening and a mystery to who’s behind it and why they’re doing it. However the differences were clearly noticeable. The first that the story seems to have been “dumbed down.” Jack makes a point of stating he can now be hurt, which really wasn’t required and obvious plot lines are discussed by characters as a method of explaining to the audience what’s going on. It’s very Americanised, with the story being focused on the CIA and what’s happening in America rather than the UK. This is clearly evident from the offset when American news readers are reporting what’s happening in the world. Being cynical this could be deliberate so that the BBC can show it and get good audience ratings on BBC America.

Overall it’s an OK first episode hasn’t got me as hooked as the Torchwood: Children of Earth first Episode did.

Review Episode 2 after I’ve watched it!

The Wedding of the Year

By Happiness & Joy3 Comments

On Saturday 2nd July 2011, Shaun (see The Long Lost Brother Story) and Sarah (his missus) got Wed. They couldn’t have choose a better day for it. The sun was bright, warming the air and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Plus they had the sound of the calm sea as they got married on the sea front. I was honoured and privileged to be invited to what turned out to be the Wedding of the year.

The night before I had stayed over with Shaun, to help get him and the kids ready in the morning. Well I managed to get the kids, Shaun and myself ready and there on time. Shaun was uncharacteristically nervous, but then it was his wedding day, so I’ll let him off.

Shaun and Myself

As people started to arrive I got a snap of mum and Jodie (Alex’s girlfriend going in his place, see My Darling Baby Brother), the both of them looking particularly beautiful:

And I am pleased to say I didn’t scrub up too bad either:

The ceremony started at 1pm in the hotel. It was a small intimate setting with the ceremony being one of the most overwhelmingly emotional I have ever experienced. You could feel the love in the room; the love for Shaun and Sarah and the happiness at them both finally making a life long commitment to one another. Tears of joy filled my eyes as they did in most peoples. I didn’t get many pictures during the ceremony as I wanted to really absorb the event in to memory. But I did get these:

After the ceremony, the photographer used his charisma to get us to pose for various photos. Here’s one of Shaun and Sarah outside the hotel:

Then it was time for something to eat. On entering the well dressed dinning room, I couldn’t help but notice the seaside town theme:

Food came which was course after course of some of the most delicious food I’ve ever had in my life. Seriously good food. Pate, Soup, Chicken with green pepper corn sauce and veg, profiteroles and then coffee.

Speeches followed. All from the heart and with a good amount of humour.

After all that, it was time for a break. We had an hour to relax before the evening do commenced. Some went up to their room in the hotel, whereas others stayed by the bar. I was so full after all those courses I wanted a nap, but as I wasn’t staying at the hotel I didn’t. The evening do kicked off with cutting of the cake and the first dance:

After that it was party time. A good time was had by all. I spent the next few days recovering from all the fun! Easily the best Wedding of the year. I’m so happy that they had such a good day and want to wish them all the luck in the world for their future together.

Take care,

Antony

Aura Photography

By PaganismNo Comments

I had always been skeptical of aura photography, after hearing very mixed things about it’s authenticity. However on my recent visit to my local crystal shop, the owner stated he had bought a polaroid aura photography camera and encouraged me to try it. So I did and here was the result:

Meaning of the Colours
Red – Ambition, Motivation, Vitality, Challenge, Strong Emotion, Will Power, Obsession, Intensity, Rage, Obstinate, Depletion, Uprooted.

Purple – Altruistic, Sacrafice, Sensitivity, Visionary, Artistic, Nobility, Working with the sense, Spiritual Haughtiness, Self Obsessed, Under grounded, Victim, Martyr, Thought without action.

I’ve bolded the words that apply to how I was feeling at the time, after a rather traumatising experience. To me proof that it was a genuine aura photo. Plus I also noted a big gaping hole in the top right side of my aura. Needless to say after the photo, I undertook some healing.

Kittens at home and spending time with Family and Friends

By Happiness & Joy, Life2 Comments

Recently the kittens – Dylan and Russell have come home. I took two weeks off work to help them settle. You know when they’ve settled when they eat:

They’ve also found they’re favourite napping place and often cuddle each other:

Overall they’ve settled well. Dylan is the mischievous one, whereas Rus is very laid back. A welcome addition to the family my babies…ahem…kittens.

My two weeks off was also a much needed opportunity to relax and catch up with family and friends. Sye introduced me to Manchester Library:

I only took a few photos. But this one, I love, it shows literatures history:

I am addicted to the written word and it was great to see the old books. We also visited Manchester Museum Of Science and Industry, but didn’t get much time there. We’ll have to go back.

Write soon,

Antony
