Slumdog Millionaire

By Life, Love & Relationships, Reviews, TV, Online Streaming & FilmsNo Comments

David and I went watching Slumdog Millionaire at the weekend. Here is some info about the film:

Slumdog Millionaire is the story of Jamal Malik (Patel), an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India¹s “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?”

But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika (Pinto), the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show¹s questions.

Each chapter of Jamal¹s increasingly layered story reveals where he learned the answers to the show¹s seemingly impossible quizzes. But one question remains a mystery: what is this young man with no apparent desire for riches really doing on the game show?

When the new day dawns and Jamal returns to answer the final question, the Inspector and sixty million viewers are about to find out.

I would highly recommend it. I made scared, cry, laugh, happy, and feel all sorts of other emotions. But most of all it made me contemplate the poverty of the slums.

Yes Man

By Happiness & Joy, Life, Love & Relationships, Reviews, TV, Online Streaming & Films3 Comments

Hi All,

David and I spent the whole weekend together this weekend. We had our chat and discussed the arguement (see Job Interview & David).

Then David played to me. He played some wonderful romantic music on the keyboard, including some of my favourite love songs. He is soo talented. He can listen to a tune and copy it exactually, knowing which notes (or what ever they are!) to key. I was simply in Awe of him.

After the wonderful romance we decided to head out to the cinemas. We watched Yes Man. Truth be told I though it would be a re-take of Liar, Liar. However I was to be pleasantly supprised.

Jim Carrey stars as a single, middle aged man, who works in a bank and spends his life saying No. He spends his time sat on the sofa watching DVD’s. Then some how he manages to end up at a YES conference. He ends up making a covenet to say yes to everything.

Throughout it was none-stop-laughter, so I would highly recommend it. It makes you think about being open to new experiences and opportunities as well. (Although I wouldn’t necessarily want to have a 80 year old woman offer me a sexual favour and have to say yes.)

Write soon,

Antony

Ups and Downs

By Friends & Family, Health, Life, Love & Relationships, Paganism, Shopping, Technology, Thinking2 Comments

The weekend started really on Saturday. David and I had arranged to have a chat following the weekend prior (see Job Interview & David).

I had picked up my new BlackBerry Storm (see The phone we forgot) prior to setting out to drive to his, an Up. The Down about this was that as I had choose to keep my existing mobile number I had to wait for the PAC to transfer over, so the handset was unusable for 72 hours.

David jumped in the car to help me find parking. Once we had found it, we had to stay with the car until we were allowed to legally park there. David was initially closed. I had come open minded, but still with the one thought: that I am fed up arguing.

But what I didn’t count on was how I’d react and connect to David’s addictive energy once again. We ended up going out shopping (bought this fantastic t-shirt, I will have to post a pic!) and for a meal in the evening. The day and evening was amazing (Up), but somehow we didn’t manage to discuss the argument (a definite Down).

Sunday I head back home. I had promised my friend a reiki session (see Reiki one – Qualified) and had to prepare. I had a bath were I cleansed, protected and grounded my energies. I put some reiki healing energy in to some candles and collected my oils, the burner, the reiki-ed candles, crystals, etc. together.

The great thing about a reiki session is that you as the practitioner also get a reiki treatment too, so add that to the reiki I had done in the bath (cleansing, protecting & grounding) and I had a total of 2 reiki treatments. A definite Up.

Reiki is a stress-relief energy treatment. For more about how to destress please see my Relaxation post.

I would like to thank my friend for allowing me to give him some reiki treatment and for the nice food he bought me afterwards. Food is always a Up.

So that was my weekend, definitely more Ups than Downs!

Addiction to shower gells?

By Happiness & Joy, Life, Love & Relationships, Thinking4 Comments

“Let me look in that cubboard?” Curious David said. Using my body as a barrier: “You won’t understand.” Lovingly David moves me out of the way. He opens up the cubboard, looks at me and says: “Your ill.”

This is how David discovered my 20+ shower gells all lined up. He doesn’t understand! So to help explain I told him this story:

I was once in morrisons and saw a particular brand of shower gells that I love buy-one-get-one-free. So I couldn’t leave them there for that, could I?

(I seem to have inherited my mums attraction for bargins.)

So I bought 10 and got 10 free. David’s response to this was: “Your very ill.”

I am unsure were this need to have plenty shower gells in stock. Perhaps someone once made a comment about my hygiene? (Doubt it as always have been very clean.) Or did I once run out? And my OCD (obsessive, compulsive disorder) set in – giving me a need to stock up and put them in an order. The latter is probably true. So Ok, I do have an addiction to shower gells, but perhaps there is worse addictions?

And can I just say at this point: Supermarkets you don’t help! You always have offers on them and place them on the end of the isle – so I can’t even aviod them by not going down the isle.

So what do you think? Am I “ill” as David suggests? Do I have an addiction? Leave a comment.

Blog about random things soon.

Antony

(P.S Oh and in relation to David – I will let you know what’s going on, when I do.)
