South Wales Castles – Raglan Castle & White Castle

Last weekend a friend and I travelled to the edge of South Wales for a long weekend away. One day we went in search of pine trees in The Forest of Dean.

The next day we visited Raglan Castle and White Castle. Here are some photos from Raglan Castle:

That Time We Did 2 Shows in 1 Day in London – Wicked & Bat Out of Hell

I remember that time we did 2 shows in 1 day in London. It was one of the best days I’ve had in a long time.

It was a bright February day. We enjoyed each other’s company in the car. You kindly did all the driving. We tubed it into the city centre. I nearly lost my life due to getting stuck in the tube door. But you were there to pull me inside. You kept me safe while we travelled around the gigantic and intimidating city of London. I have never felt safer, than I did with you that day.

We drove down to London and went watching Wicked and Bat Out of Hell:

Wicked was your passion. You were right seeing it with the full stage set and cast in London is an experiential must.

We had a brief scout about in London before getting something to eat.

Then we went on to Bat Out of Hell – The Musical. To you, this was you fulfilling a promise you had made. I didn’t take the promise seriously at the time you made it, due to circumstances. It was one that I never expected you to fulfil. The show was phenomenal and I’m sure that I thanked you more than once for the experience?

We then headed home. You still kept me at a distance avoiding the physical intimacy I offered. But that’s okay. It was and is still one of my best, happiest memories. So thank you for the amazing day and incredible memory.

MEGA POST: What’s Been Happening To Me – The Welsh Mountain Zoo, COVID Positive, Certificate in Counselling Skills & A Double Ear Infection

In June, I visited the Welsh Mountain Zoo with my good friend Simon. Here are some photos from the day:

In June I also tested positive for COVID-19. It floored me. I didn’t have any of the usual COVID symptoms: no cough, no temperature and no changes to my sense of taste or smell. Instead I had the following symptoms:

  • Exhaustion
  • An intermittent rash
  • Lumps on my hands
  • Headaches
  • Insomnia

I had been double vaccinated, used the face masks and remembered about social distancing. It made me so ill, I was off work and generally out of action for nearly 6 weeks.

Part of the reason I haven’t blogged recently, is as following COVID I had to catch up on a Certificate in Counselling Skills I had signed up to at my local college. I am pleased to announce, that subject to external moderation, I’ve successfully passed the course. I’m now about to start undertaking another course a Certificate in Mental Health Awareness.

The great thing about these courses offered at my local college, is that they’re free. Unless you don’t complete them, then you have to pay £125 – a good incentive to get them done.

At the moment I’m struggling with a double ear infection, meaning an infection in both ears. Its been very painful. But thankfully I’m on some antibiotics now that seem to be doing the trick.

Adventure: The Metropolitan City of Wroclaw, Poland

I recently visited Wroclaw in Poland with my brother and his friends for his stag do and his birthday. It was the first time I had met many of my brother’s friends and they are a great bunch of lads. In this post I’ll be discussing my experience of being in Wroclaw.

The first thing to write is that the architecture is aesthetically pleasing. There are many buildings with a Georgian style and many churches that are exquisitely designed. Here is an example of one such church:

Wroclaw is vibrant, youthful and has an upbeat feel. It is a clean city, only being let down by graffiti that is everywhere. There are plenty of places to eat and drink, with some even having English menus upon request. The cost of living is cheap with roughly 10 slotty (about £2) buying a double vodka and diet coke. I did have difficulties getting zero sugar drinks in a number of places, which was a bit of an issue with me being diabetic.

The only Polish word I managed to learn was Kawa, which means coffee. The main square is huge and has flower market stalls that appear to be open 24/7. I found myself listening to Polish conversations as I walked around and appreciating the beautiful sound of the language. Some Polish spoke English exceptionally well whereas others didn’t speak any English at all. I found the Google Translate App really useful.

Without doubt it is people that make a city. All appeared happy, content and liberal. Polish people had less inhibitions when it came to dancing than we English have. Polish people will quite happily bump into anyone in their way in pubs and clubs. This is normal to the Polish, but being British I found it a little rude.

As Poland is known for being Roman Catholic and as such conservative when it comes to gay people and their rights. I decided to test the waters with a Polish man who I had been talking to and getting on with whilst smoking a cigarette. I came out and asked his views on gay people. He said:

“I don’t care, I don’t give a fuck. That’s your choice. We’re all just friends here.”

He described himself as not being religious, male, heterosexual and was in his mid twenties.

Overall Wroclaw is a beautiful city, with wonderful people and a place that I will be visiting again.
