Happiness & Joy

Things are changing…

By Friends & Family, Happiness & Joy, Inspiration, Life, Love & Relationships, Money / Finances3 Comments

…and it’s all good!

I know I have started to feel stuck in a rutt. So I decided to get myself out of it!

I went to an apartment block to see if their were apartments to rent but soon discovered on entering the sales office that there weren’t. But with the encouragement of a work colleague (and friend) we viewed two apartments. The second I loved!

So yes, I’ve decided to buy. If I can. I have reserved it and am meeting with a Financial Advisor (who’m I have already been in communication with) and we are going to put an application in. So I don’t want to give any further details at present or supply photos, until I’m certain.

But if all goes well, I could be moving out of this house-share in 6 weeks or less! Yippee!

I would like to thank my family, friends and work colleagues who have had loads of open and honest conversations with me. You have been a invaluable source of support – allowing me to use you as sounding boards. However special thanks must go to (in no particular order): Simon, Mum & David. They have been fantastic! Thank you.

Update you soon,

Antony x

Jacket Potatoe Themed Party

By Friends & Family, Happiness & Joy, LifeNo Comments

After my recent rants (see Not a Happy Bunny and Charity begins at home?) I am pleased to say that the weekend was very positive.

Saturday David and I went to Chrys’ for a Jacket Potatoe Themed Birthday Party. The idea is that you ask guests to bring drinks and fillings for jacket potatoes and you provide the potatoes (cooked of course!). I was the designated driver and David had a few drinks. It was funny to hear him rabbiting on in the car, tipsy on the way home.

The party was wonderful, lots of people in attendance busily socialising, the fire in the garden (maintained by Simon), plenty of magic tricks and games. It was one of the best parties I have attended in a long time (then again, Chrys’ always are!).

Sunday (today) I had to leave David’s quite early :(. I had plans to meet up with my friend C to help her look at moving a business idea on. I was pleased to be able to help her and her business partner out. We first looked at the background to the idea, what they had and then what they needed to do next in order to move it forward. I helped them complete an Action Plan which is timescaled. I will be meeting up with them again in a month in order to see where they are up to.

I seemed to have given them a fresh dose of motivation and direction on what to do next. I am glad that I have been able to help a friend out. I have often thought we should have a National help a friend out day.

I am nackard after last weeks busy week and the busy weekend. So that’s all for now folks.

Yes Man

By Happiness & Joy, Life, Love & Relationships, Reviews, TV, Online Streaming & Films3 Comments

Hi All,

David and I spent the whole weekend together this weekend. We had our chat and discussed the arguement (see Job Interview & David).

Then David played to me. He played some wonderful romantic music on the keyboard, including some of my favourite love songs. He is soo talented. He can listen to a tune and copy it exactually, knowing which notes (or what ever they are!) to key. I was simply in Awe of him.

After the wonderful romance we decided to head out to the cinemas. We watched Yes Man. Truth be told I though it would be a re-take of Liar, Liar. However I was to be pleasantly supprised.

Jim Carrey stars as a single, middle aged man, who works in a bank and spends his life saying No. He spends his time sat on the sofa watching DVD’s. Then some how he manages to end up at a YES conference. He ends up making a covenet to say yes to everything.

Throughout it was none-stop-laughter, so I would highly recommend it. It makes you think about being open to new experiences and opportunities as well. (Although I wouldn’t necessarily want to have a 80 year old woman offer me a sexual favour and have to say yes.)

Write soon,

Antony

Maintaining Motivation

By Happiness & Joy, Health, Life, Thinking2 Comments

If you are like me you have set your Goals for 2009 (although you may have called them New Years Resolutions. I struggle with my motivation to keep them. One day I will have a high level of motivation and do really well and another day I will have a low level of motivation and not achieve any of them.

So here is some advice on how to maintain that motivation and keep on track with your goals or resolutions in 2009. (Simliar to the Relaxation post I did some time ago).

Family & Friends
Our family and friends have a massive influence on our life (just see People that inspire me). So when your motivation is low go to them for some support. They’ll give you plenty of positive encouragement that can give your motivation levels a real boost. Better yet if you can get them involved even better.

So for example if you are going to the gym as a new years resolution, why not encourage them to tag along? This will give you moral support everytime you go! Plus it will get you both healthier. Win, win situation.

Pro’s and Con’s
Pro’s are the benefits of you doing / not doing something. So for example the benefits for not smoking could include:

  • More money
  • Improved breathing & Overall feeling of well-being
  • Better sense of taste
  • Smell better
  • etc.
  • When motivation levels are low it can be good to list the Pro’s of doing or not doing something. Listing the Con’s also help. So using smoking as the example again, these could include:

  • Poor health – increased illnesses
  • Less money
  • Ruled by your addition
  • Smell & others reactions to it.
  • Smoking in the rain.
  • etc.
  • Hopefully you’ll have more Con’s than Pro’s but it is important that you focus on the Pro’s when your motivation levels are low. Keep the list of Pro’s and keep revisiting it to increase your motivation levels.

    Just for today…
We tend to want the things in life we are trying to deny ourselfs. So a good motivation method I do is simply not to deny myself anything. I say: Just for today, I will eat healthier and take my break at work. It is a psychological trick I play on myself verbalised as a positive affirmation. I works really well for me.

Recognise how far you have come.
Many people only realise when they slip up or don’t achieve the end result. It is important if your motivation levels are low to recognise how far you have come and congratulate yourself! Well done on getting this far! Just a little further to go – you can do it

    Treat yourself
If your having a particularly hard or difficult week in terms of your motivation levels, treat yourself. Buy yourself a gift to reward the hard work that you have done. This could be something inexpensive like a cake or something more expensive like a DVD. Go and buy it in the shops as then you have it there and then – an appreciation from yourself of the hard work. Buying online – you have to wait for delivery, and the gift to yourself doesn’t quite feel the same because of the delay. You need your reward there and then for the achievement you have succeded in completing. Repeat as necessary.

    Religious
In this case, you have to be the judgement on how your own religion will enhance your motivation levels. For some prayers will increase their motivation. Whereas for me I would probably cast a spell for motivation.

If you don’t do that well…
Start again tomorrow. Noboday achieved all of their goals or new years resolutions on the first attempt. It’s important you just start again tomorrow! Don’t leave it and make excuses to yourself and delay starting again!

    Hope that’s useful my friends,

    Antony
