Film Review: 28 Years Later

By Amazon, Reviews, TV, Online Streaming & FilmsNo Comments

28 Years Later is the third zombie film set in the UK by Director Danny Boyle. His first film was 28 Days Later and his second film was 28 Weeks Later.

I watched this film at the cinema, this past weekend. I’d enjoyed Boyle’s other two films, as I tend to love any zombie story. It started with clips that felt like they’d been forced together and it took a while to get into the film’s story, but when it did, it was thoroughly enjoyable.

The zombies weren’t as scary as they are in most films and I never felt that any of the characters were in serious danger, which was a disappointment. Boyle had tried to add more fear by having a massive ‘alpha’ zombie, but without explanation, it just felt out of place.

The warmth between the boy Spike and his mother was touching, but none of the characters really developed, despite what was happening to them.

The twist ending was equally unexpected and disturbing and will likely lead to another film to show what happens next to Spike.

If you like zombie stories, you may enjoy my Z-Virus book series, which currently two books:

The Z-VIRUS mutates people’s DNA. The majority of infected people become zombies, but a minority seem immune but the virus causes them to develop powers.

At first these powers like invisibility, telepathy and telekinesis aided survival. But as the Z-Virus continues to mutate, the powers become more and more destructive.

Forced with no other choice, one group goes in search of a cure. But will they survive the roaming zombie hordes long enough to make an epic journey across the country to find the cure?

Join Alexis, Vis, Chan, Luke, Natalie, Grace, Chloe, Kyle, David and Goliath on this journey in Z-VIRUS Powers, the first instalment of this three part story.

he Z-Virus is mutating, now affecting plants and animals.

A group of people, most with supernatural powers, are in desperate hunt for a cure.

Their powers which once helped their survival, are now becoming destructive.

Can they survive for long enough to find the cure? And if so, what will happen when they take it?

Join Alexis, Goliath, Luke, Lucy, Kyle, Natalie, Erin, Sophie, Kevin, George, Zoha, Harry and Ryan on this epic, entertaining and thrilling adventure.

Z-Virus Monsters is the second instalment of The Z-Virus Series. The first book in the series is Z-Virus Powers.

Charitable Donations 2014

By Gay, Health, Home, Life, Money / Finances, ThinkingNo Comments

Last year I was Thinking About Homelessness and made donations to The Albert Kennedy Trust and Shelter. I aim to donate to these charities again this year. But this year I’ve also made donations to:

JDRF-logo After reading this blog post: Why EVEN I’M excited about the beta cell breakthrough for type 1 diabetes – and why your £10 donation today will go further than ever before. By JDRF’s Head of Research Communication Rachel Connor, as a Type 1 diabetic, I felt compelled to donate towards a cure for diabetes.

I hope to buy or be bought a JDRF onesie from Onesie Warehouse to make a further £5 donation.

tom-daley-dustin-black-video-screenshot After watching Tom Daley’s and Dustin Lance Black’s heart-felt Youtube video, I decided to donate. My donation supports The Human Rights Campaign in the US and The Brain Tumour Charity in the UK. Both worthy causes that deserve support.

Plus by donating I’ve got a chance to win a double date with Tom & Dustin which includes: a photoshoot, going on the London Eye, going for dinner with Tom & Dustin before being shown around some cool places in London by them.

To find out more see: Omaze – Go on the best double date ever with Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black in London.

sell-off-nhs-header I’ve made a donation to help make the film Sell-Off – The Abolition of Your NHS.

I am seeing the results of The Health and Social Care Act (2012) on the NHS firsthand. We are quickly moving towards the American model of healthcare, driven by profit not medical need and I think it’s wrong. This film will hopefully show the general public the truth, which is being widely under reported in the media.

All these donations have been relatively small. But even small donations help, and if many people made small donations it would soon mount up.

Write soon,

Antony

Film Review: Percy Jackson – Sea of Monsters

By Amazon, Friends & Family, Reviews, TV, Online Streaming & FilmsNo Comments
percy-jackson-sea-of-monsters-poster Earlier this week mum & I went to watch Percy Jackson – Sea of Monsters at the cinemas. It’s the second film in the Percy Jackson series. It starts by telling the story of Thalia, daughter of Zeus, who was attacked by a Cyclops while heading to the half-blood camp (a place for sons and daughters of the Olympian Gods & Goddesses). Rather than die she became a tree that generates a magical barrier, offering vital protection to the camp.

Percy (Logan Lerman) son of Water God Poseidon, is worried about being a one-hit wonder until tree Thalia is poisoned. The only way to save Thalia – and the camp is to get the Golden Fleece. So Percy sets out with Annabeth (Alexandra Daddario), Grover (Brandon T. Jackson) and his new Cyclops half-brother Tyson (Douglas Smith) on their quest to retrieve the Golden Fleece.

But Luke (Jake Abel) Percy’s enemy is back. Luke wants to revive Kronos to take revenge on the Olympian Gods and Goddesses who he feels have abandoned him and the rest of the half-bloods. Luke needs the Golden Fleece to revive Kronos. So Percy and Co must retrieve the Golden Fleece from a mean Cyclops, stop Luke from reviving Kronos and save Thalia. And that’s exactly what they do.

Percy’s character felt one dimensional and was overshadowed by the depth of some of the other minor characters. I couldn’t tell whether this was because of the acting or storyline. The storyline didn’t have enough tension and there was no sense of any real peril.

I watched the trailer beforehand (see below) and expected a number of water/under water scenes. There were some, but not as many as I had expected.

The CGI effects were amazing. Mum and I watched it in 2D, in 3D the effects would have been incredible – especially in the final scenes.

The film was OK and an easy watch. It entertained me and kept my attention. With more work on the basics (storyline, character depth, character interaction and directing) it could have been phenomenal. Overall it just wasn’t as fantastic as I hoped it would be.

Film Review: I Want Your Love (DVD)

By Amazon, Books & Authors, ReviewsNo Comments
i-want-your-love-dvd-cover
I Want Your Love is collaborative film between gay porn studio NakedSword and independent filmmaker Travis Mathews.

Jesse is an aspiring artist who feels creatively blocked because of the state his finances and his massive amount of debt. After spending the last decade in San Francisco, Jessie decides to move back home to his parents in Ohio, the Midwest to free himself of the financial pressure.

I Want Your Love is the story of his last weekend in San Francisco with his friends, roommates and ex-lovers coming to his leaving party.

i-want-your-love-1 Sex plays an important role within this film and there are uncensored sex scenes from the start. Sex is used to show character development, intimacy, move the storyline along and the development of friendships: those that start with clear defined boundaries but turn into something more – entering that grey area between friend and lover.

Whatever type of man you’re into, you’ll find them in this film and I can guarantee that they’ll be in a graphic, all-exposed sex scene. Whether your taste be: bears, twinks, older, younger, white, black, asian, muscly, ordinary or just an all-round lover of all.

The film is extremely erotic and at times felt like watching a porn film. There’s even a threesome scene. The obligatory porn “I’m going to come!” scene followed by – well use your imagination, makes several appearances in this film. Arguably the storyline gets lost at times in the incredibly hot, but distracting sex.

i-want-you-love-2 Jesse is completely likeable, relatable and discovers that he’s searching for his true self. Over the course of the weekend he redefines what it means to him to be an artist, gay, and an adult. However the ending was a bit of an anti-climax.

It’s brilliantly directed and shot in a way that makes you feel like your sharing the characters most intimate moments. I Want Your Love is at times: funny, emotionally touching, romantic and sentimental as well as being abundantly horny throughout.

There were slow scenes of sparse dialogue that were followed by peaks of rampant high-paced sex. There was an annoying character – one who really grated, but luckily he wasn’t in the film much.

Mathews stated that he wanted to give an ‘honest and relevant’ representation of everyday gay life for men in San Francisco. I’m not from San Francisco so I can’t comment; but if that’s what it is really like – get me on a plane!

I Want Your Love is the perfect film to watch with your partner or other very close friends – not only thoroughly entertaining, it will give you plenty of ideas in the bedroom department. I Want Your Love [DVD] is available to pre-order/order on Amazon.

Antony
