An Update on New Experiences

By Adventures, LifeNo Comments

At the beginning of the year I wrote a list of New Experiences for 2013. It’s nearly half way through the year, a scary thought I know. So I thought I’d re-look at the list:

  • January – Do something that makes you feel uncomfortable. Done, see Something Uncomfortable.
  • February – Take a photo every day. Done, see the photos here: February Photo Challenge.
  • March – Be honest. Don’t lie, not even those little white lies. I found this one difficult to measure, as I’m generally quite honest anyway.
  • April – Socialise in new places and meet new people. I had a look for local writing groups, but couldn’t find any and gave up. I’m going to Pagan Con 2013 in July which will definitely be a new place to socialise and I’ll get to meet some new people as well.
  • May – See the sun rise & set (not necessarily on the same day). I’ve have had a think and need to see the sun rise & set somewhere beautiful. I hope to see a sun rise & set in July.
  • June – Do something for someone else that is completely selfless. I’ve not planned anything yet, but I’m sure an opportunity will come along.
  • July – Visit a site of historical significance. Done. I’ve visited The Druid Circle and Millom Castle with Simon. See Cumbria Adventure for photos.
  • August – Try a food that you would usually turn you’re nose up at saying you don’t like it before you’ve even tried it. I’ve not even thought about this one yet.
  • September – Publish a short story online. I’ve published two stories, see Bravely Sharing My Short Stories and Creative Writing. In addition, I’m doing some journalistic writing for The Gay UK, see Journalism page for articles.
  • October – See Wicked (the Musical). I’ve booked tickets to see with Steve. We’ve also booked tickets to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Up4aMeet.
  • November – Have a “pamper” night in. I’ve not even thought about this one yet.
  • December – Rest & Relax. Despite the busy pace this time of year, take plenty of time for R&R. I’ve not even thought about this one yet.
  • The phrase: could do better, comes to mind. Still at least I’ve got most planned.

    Twenty-Seven

My Birthday Presents – Happy Birthday Cake

I’ve been twenty-seven for a fortnight now, and I’ve discovered that it’s no different than being twenty-six. I had a brilliant birthday which involved: spending time with family & friends, visiting The Druid Circle & Millom Castle and lots of lovely presents.

I remember turning twenty and having a fear about losing my youth; I was quite down about it until I realised that it’s inevitable. Although there’s no difference between twenty-seven and twenty-six, every birthday causes me to stop and reflect on my life.

This years birthday has made me think about love. I met my first love when he was around twenty-seven years old. I was younger than him and he had to decide whether he was going to risk his heart or play it safe.

He choose to play it safe. I understand his decision now; more so than I ever did before. By twenty-seven he must have experienced his heart break several times. It’s a natural to have mechanisms to protect yourself from further pain.

But I hope that next time I meet someone special, I don’t let my past get in the way. Instead I hope that I believe in them, believe in love and make positive choices that lead to happiness.

    Take care,

    Antony

Advice About Writing From Stephen King: “A Magic Moment”

    By LifeNo Comments

One day I told Sye that even I could write a better book than the one I’d just read.
    “Why don’t ya?” Sye asked.
I started to write I suddenly had an overwhelming need to tell the stories of the characters that have come to life in my head.

In the video below Stephen King gives advice to those wanting to be a Writer. He says aspiring Writers should read lots and write lots. He also talks about a magic moment after reading a book where you think to yourself: I can do better than this.

Me on TV – Live To The Nation!

By Education, Gigs & Shows, Life, PoliticalNo Comments

I got asked to be a Guest Speaker on the BBC Three’s Free Speech. Free Speech is formatted like Question Time; members of the audience ask questions to a panel of politicians or others involved in politics. Yesterday was the live broadcast to the Nation from Liverpool Hope University. I arrived a few hours before the broadcast with butterflies in my stomach and a buzz of excitement.

I realised once the broadcast had started I realised my vibrant purple shirt made me stand out, more than I had intended to do so. I listened to the questions asked, answers from the panel and opinions of the audience members. The debate lived up when we came to my topic: drugs and alcohol.

Rick Edwards (the Presenter) came to ask about my experience working in the field.

I had been expecting to be introduced differently and to get two minutes of air time. But because the debate had been lively, I knew I had to cut it down. So I said my piece.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I learnt so much about the TV World. I think I looked good, sounded OK and did well considering it was my first time. If a simliar opportunity comes along in the future, at least I’d be less nervous as I now have some experience. I would like to thank everyone who encouraged me to do it as well as two special ladies for their expertise and advice (they know who they are!).

If you are a UK resident and want to watch the whole Episode you can for the next seven days on the BBC iplayer: Free Speech – Episode 11. You can also get involved with the debate on Facebook or Twitter.
