Matilda at Manchester Palace Theatre

By Friends & Family, Gigs & Shows, Happiness & JoyNo Comments

At the weekend, my mum, Kelly, my mum’s friend and her daughter went to see Matilda at Manchester Palace Theatre. We arrived before the matinee performance and had lunch out.

In Matilda the cast, mostly made up of children, were fantastic. The set was superb. The storyline followed that of the film. I’m not sure how closely it follows the book, as I’ve never read it.

The songs were good, but the show lacked any defining and memorable songs. Usually in a musical there is at least one catchy and memorable song. For example in Wicked you have defying gravity. In The Rocky Horror Show you have Time Warp and Sweet Transvestite. In Sister Act you have Take Me To Heaven and Fabulous, Baby!

Overall Matilda was an enjoyable show for children and adults alike. Here are some photos:

The Witch’s Bag of Tricks is not a book for the initiate or new Witch.

It’s a book for the knowledgeable and experienced Witch. Witches who’ve reached a learning plateau and were spells have began to lose their effectiveness. (We’ve all been there.)

In The Witch’s Bag of Tricks Marquis covers:

  • Magick’s Seven Functions: Giving Energy Initial Purpose, Transforming Energy, Combining Energy, Separating Energies, Containing Energy, Releasing Energy & Redirecting Energy
  • Increasing your Power Potential
  • Removing Blocks to Great Power
  • Discovering Affinities
  • Spiritual Development
  • Psychic Spell Work & Psychic Development
  • Three Aspects of ESP: Perceiving the Whole, Perceiving the Parts & Perceiving the Connections
  • Magickal Development
  • The Difference between Charms, Spells & Rituals
  • Positive Binding Magic
  • Imitative Magick
  • Prosperity Magick
  • Love Magick
  • Advanced Defense Magick
  • Principles of Defensive Magic – Containing, Binding, Banishing & Shielding
  • Mood-Lifting and Luck Magick.

Marquis’ writing style reminded me of one that you would read in a magazine. This made The Witch’s Bag of Tricks feel superficial.

This wasn’t helped by Marquis trying to cover a large number of topics in the one book. There were parts of the book I would have loved Marquis to explore in more detail.

Reading The Witch’s Bag of Tricks was a pleasure. It reinvigorated my love of learning in the Craft – which is no small achievement. It’s great to see a book on the market and aimed at practiced Witches. I hope to find other books like this.

So far I’ve found the following books useful for an experienced Witch: Advanced Witchcraft by Edain McCoy, Witchcraft: Theory and Practice by Ly De Angeles, Utterly Wicked: Curses, Hexes & Other Unsavory Notions by Dorothy Morrison.

The Witch’s Bag of Tricks is available to buy on Amazon and at all good bookshops.

Review soon,

Antony

Two Different Dietitians & My Changed Insulin Regime

By HealthNo Comments

Tonight I’m confused. Confused and demotivated.

Three weeks ago I had a really productive appointment with a Dietitian. We talked through my diet, insulin intake and carb counting. She was realistic and we set realistic and achievable goals. The plan was:

  • Increase my Lantus insulin.
  • Achieve a before breakfast BM of 4-7 mmols.
  • Novorapid insulin at a 1:5 ratio (1 unit for every 5g of carbs)
  • If BM High correction dose 1 unit to reduce BM by 2 mmols.
  • Take Novorapid insulin 20 minutes before meal – as it takes 20-30 mins to begin to take action.

Over the past three weeks I’ve increased Lantus units, see my changed insulin regime here:

My Changed Insulin Regime

Fast forward to today and I saw a different Dietitian. The new plan, at least I think it is:

  • Check all pre-meals BM using my finger pricking TEE2 Meter. The Dietitian didn’t think my FreeStyle Libre was accurate enough.
  • Measure food using a cup/spoon and scales to come up with standard sizes and the the number of grams. The Dietitian didn’t seem happy with my use of Carbs and Cals App.
  • Lose weight. Eat 40-50% less Carbs per day. Exercise (I’ve heard this from my Diabetic Consultant, Diabetic Specialist Nurse and now two Dietitians).
  • Replace Carbs with Veg. She recommended that I have 2 portions of fruit and 3 of veg before my evening meal.

The Dietitian today was very tell-y and some of the plan I felt was unrealistic. But every time I tried to raise this she just repeated what she’d said previously.

I left feeling confused, not listened to and utterly and completely demotivated.

Write soon,

Antony
