Aripiprazole Shortage in the UK

By HealthNo Comments
Aripiprazole 5mg Box

Aripiprazole is an antipsychotic medication that prevents visual, auditory and tactile hallucinations.

It is a medication I use to prevent auditory hallucinations, that is to say that it prevents me from hearing things that are not there – including bleeping sounds of the Microwave, Washer and my cats meowing.

I went to pick up my prescription from the Chemist this week to discover that there is a national (in the UK) shortage of Aripiprazole in the 10mg and 5mg strengths.

It started several months ago with a shortage of the 10mg strength, so I was switched to the 5mg strength. Now they are also in short supply. My Chemist wasn’t able to tell me the reason why or when this shortage is likely to be resolved.

My daily dose is 20mg of Aripiprazole so my GP has ordered me the 15mg strength and advised me to use the last of my 5mg strength to make up the dose. This will last me a couple of weeks, whilst he awaits for further information.

If this goes on for several months, then there will be no option but to switch me to a different antipsychotic medication. The thought is anxiety provoking. Aripiprazole is a 2nd Generation antipsychotic. Others in the category include Quetiapine and Olanzapine, both of which have side effects including being highly sedative and weight gain. Plus I’ve been on large dosages of Quetiapine without good effect.

For now I will have to wait and see what happens. My mental stability depends on me being on the right medication to balance my neurotransmitters.

Sometimes People Disappoint

It is a fact of life that: Sometimes People Disappoint.

Wiser people than me, would say have no expectations, then you are never disappointed but always surprised.

The thing is:

  1. I am not one of those wiser people.
  2. Sometimes people, in what they say, give you some expectations.

I guess some people can’t follow through on their words. Rather than feel disappointed, I choose to move on; and look for those rare people who do what they say.

In other news: I recently visited Speke Hall & Gardens and treated myself to a new smart phone, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra in a gorgeous baby blue. Blog posts to follow.

My Thirty-Sixth Birthday – A Visit to Walton Hall & Gardens, time with Family and Friends

By Books & Authors, Friends & Family, Happiness & Joy, NatureNo Comments
Me

This weekend, it was my thirty-sixth birthday. A couple of days before, I treated myself to Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before? by Dr Julie Smith.

The day before my birthday, on a sunny Friday, my good friend Simon and I visited Walton Hall & Gardens.

Walton Hall & Gardens is a park with a café, crazy golf course and a children’s petting zoo.

Essential Info

  • Walton Hall & Gardens is a park with a café, crazy golf course and a children’s petting zoo.
  • The Hall is often hired out for events such as weddings; but the café, crazy golf course and petting zoo are all open to the public.
  • It has a pay and display carpark.
  • It has toilets.
  • It has gardens that are best viewed in the Spring due to when the flowers are in bloom.
  • The café, crazy golf and children’s petting zoo have various opening times that can be viewed here.
  • The petting zoo is in the process of being revamped and therefore the only animals currently available to view were peacocks, alpacas, rabbits and ducks.

Here are some photos from Walton Hall & Gardens:

On the Saturday, my actual birthday, I spent time with my brother, his wife and my nephew.

On the Sunday, my good friend Jayne and I went out for tea.
