The Long Lost Brother Story

Reading Time: 2 minutes

I was about twelve years old when mum told me and my brother Alex (see My Darling Baby Brother) that we had two brothers. My biological dad had a relationship with a woman before he met my mum and the results were two sons. Mum said that she didn’t know where they were or even what their names were. So that was that, we continued on with our lives – not really asking any questions.

Then several months ago mum was on a train. She noticed a ticket inspector and thought she recognised him. She looked at his name badge and her mind swirled like a tornado as she realised it could be one of these brothers. Her hands shook and from somewhere came a compulsion, she simply needed to speak to him. She needed to ask him who his biological father was. She asked him and she was right. He was one of the sons from my biological fathers first relationship. Mum showed him photos of Alex and me and took his number.

What followed was a series of texts between mum and this long lost brother, Shaun. A meet up was organised with the two brothers and mum, Alex and me. Mum and Alex couldn’t wait whereas I was a little guarded. Still my gut was telling me I should go, so I did. On the day Shaun and his partner turned up. The other brother didn’t turn up, he wasn’t ready to meet us, and that’s cool. Meeting Shaun on that day has been the best thing I have ever done!

I’ve gained a big brother, who is fantastic. He makes me laugh and we’ve connected talking about everything and anything. Ha ha, he’s even protective of me wanting to have words with a guy who made some homophobic comment towards me, he didn’t need too though – I have a very sharp tongue! But more than that I’ve also gained a sister-in-law to be who I absolutely adore and three amazing kids.

I’m glad Alex was able to meet them before his death, it’s just such a shame we didn’t come across them sooner. I’m sure on that fateful day on the train, someone was leading mum to Shaun so that we could all meet. Especially for Alex who had limited time left in the physical world. I’m a big believer in everything happens for a reason.

It’s not the blood that makes us family to me, it’s the relationship we have with one another. I feel so lucky and blessed to have met him and his wonderful family. I love that we meet up when ever we can, have good times together that are spent laughing and of course enjoy a drink together.

Yuletide Preparations

Reading Time: < 1 minute

With Yuletide (or Christmas) on it’s way, I had a week off this week to prepare. Monday I bought a real Christmas tree, named Trevor:

(Click on image for full size image, Trevor was decorated by me at some point in the week!)

I manged to spend time with my Grandma on Wednesday, leaving time for mum on Thursday evening and Saturday. I caught up with my good friend Simon on Thursday as well. In between times, I crammed in my assignment for my Leadership module (see A general update). Finally finishing it yesterday (Friday). So now I can relax, well apart from the last minute Christmas shopping.

My poor laptop is starting to die though, so I had to buy a new one online. Hopefully once it arrives and is up and running I will get back to normal blogging and facebook habits.

Take care all,

Antony

A general update

Reading Time: < 1 minute

I’ve noticed that my blogging recently hasn’t really been about me. It’s been about books, my beautiful iphone and generally anything that I like. So grab a brew and we’ll have a catch up.

First, Uni. I’m doing two elearning modules, one on Leadership and the other my Dissertation module. It’s going well, although I need to do some more research for the assignments. I am enjoying the learning, but will be thankful in March when I’ve completed my final module.

Family life has been most interesting with lots of ups and downs. Mum met a long lost brother on the train recently, it turned out I have two lof them. I’ve met one of the brothers and his fiancée, which I wont deny was a bit weird. But we got on really well, they are wonderful people and guess what? I’m an uncle to four! I’ve always secretly wanted to be an uncle so I’m stoked.

In my love life, I was dating a guy for a while, but it didn’t work out. Too needy and not good communication. Now I’m dating another guy and so far, it’s going well. He makes me happy. Cheesy grin smile :D.

Well that’s about all that’s new in my life, take care,

Antony x

Back in the UK

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Sometimes in life things don’t work out how you want, dream or hope they will. The last month or so has been one of these times.

Boyfriend-W and I split up, things just didn’t work out and I returned to the UK. We have remained good friends. I learn’t so much being in Benidorm and being with him, more than I could write here (see A new design and a new beginning). So since I’ve been back what’s new?

New Car
I have got a Citroen C1 Splash in electra blue, which I’ve named Sam. I need a car for work and will be paying for Sam for the next five years. See:

New Work Image
In these difficult times in the public sector I decided to smarten up. Image is very important, not to me but to other people. Gone are the days of baggy jeans and t-shirts, come the shirts, waist coats, skinny jeans and shoes. A smarter look.

Cooking
I bought a cook book and have cooked a few meals from it. They haven’t tasted half bad, if I do say so myself. I have got great satisfaction from actually cooking something myself rather than popping frozen boxed food in the freezer. It’s called The Classic 1000 Beginners’ Recipes by Carolyn Humphries and I highly recommend it if like me you can’t cook a thing. It’s simple step recipes are so easy to follow.

Work
I’ve gone back to work with a renewed enthusiasm and some life experience.

So…What’s next?
I am moving back in to my apartment (see The Move) at the end of the month and will be glad to be home. I would like to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to my family and friends, who have been a huge support to me. Especially to my mum and Simon who continue to house me until I move back to my apartment.

Once I’ve moved back in to my apartment I intend to get a housemate to pay off some of my debts as well as continuing to try and live frugally (see Living Frugally).

In the end of September I am going back to University (see Back to University, Six NOT Four, ———–Transcript————– and Promoting and Influencing Health module results) to do a further two modules, one on leadership and the second a dissertation module.

October I am going seeing John Barrowman and have Samhain (see Pagan Festivals).

The last month or so I have been having a quiet reflective time which has mean’t a lack of blog posts. Rest assured normal blogging will now resume, whatever normal is.

Write soon,

Antony
