I recently went to Wigan Library for their Christmas Book Fair to promote/sell my six books. Here are some things that I learned:
- These sort of events are really important to introduce you as an author to potential readers. Always take some free self-promotion materials. I took business cards and postcards.
- Presentation and personal appearance really matters, an eye catching book cover and props really do attract people’s attention.
- Putting all of my health books together (Mental Health Wisdom, Ways The Human Body Can Go Wrong and The Alcohol Therapy Workbook) really helped increase sales.
- A method for taking contactless card payments is essential, as most people don’t carry cash these days.
- Free paper bags add value to books, especially if they have a sticker of a QR code on them.
- Sit back and relax. Allow people to look at your books at their leisure. Engage them in conversation only if they want to talk. Never fold your arms.
- Social media presence, website and books available on Amazon are all essential.
