NO Going Backwards

By History, ThinkingOne Comment
Reading Time: < 1 minute

Sometimes we are tempted to go back to old habits, routines and people. I recently have been tempted to go backwards, but after a lot of thought, decided not too.

In life things don’t always work out and I am a firm believer that there’s a reason why. But why are we tempted to go back? For me I think it’s I hope that it could be all that I imagined or that this time it will work and be as I’ve dreamed it. That it would make me feel like it used to or like I wanted it too.

But in the past when I’ve gone backwards, it’s always worked out the same way as the first time. So I’m not going to put myself through the ringer – learning the same old lessons again. I’ve got too many new ones to learn!

But more than that I deserve to be happy, as we all do. I know from past experience in the long run it would only cause me to feel the same again when it doesn’t work.

So in the interest of my happiness: NO going backwards, this year is strictly committed to new disasters! New habits, routines and most importantly new people.

Take Care,

Antony

Gross National Happiness

By Inspiration2 Comments

This seemingly small country has something rather unique and wonderful about it. Rather than measure the growth of a country by it’s economy it measures it by how happy the people are. According to Gross National Happiness they ask a selection of citizens how they feel about a variety of areas of living including: Time use, Living Standards, Good Governance, Psychological Wellbeing, Community Vitality, Culture, Health, Education & Ecology.

And according to Wikipedia in 1972 the ruler of Bhutan king Jigme Singye Wangchuck announced that he wanted a system of monitoring the growth of his nation that fitted in with the country’s Buddhist religion and so Gross National Happiness was developed.

I think the world would be a much better place if other countries adopted this system of measuring their growth. I’m sure many of you could argue against this and I’m sure the system has plenty of criticisms. But for me given the choice between happiness and money, I’d go for happiness every time as money can’t buy happiness.

Just thought I’d share something that brightened my day,

Antony

My SERIOUS list for the Future

By Thinking3 Comments

Dear Future,

This is my serious list of things I’d like to see happen when you arrive:

  • A cure for cancer, diabetes and other debilitating illnesses & diseases
  • People to care more, to realise in the inter-web of life we are all connected
  • People to work less, focusing their time on living a happy life
  • People to work together rather than against one another
  • People to be emotionally open and honest with themselves and others
  • People to take more responsibility for their actions
  • People realising that no matter how much you discuss (or push-my-religion-down-your-throat) it doesn’t work
  • Politicians and the like to drop the politics and work for the people who elected them
  • For money to become less important
  • For true equality
  • For education to be freely available for all
  • For society to have less regulation & rules as these seem to create barriers and would lead to a freer society
  • The ARTS (music, film, writing, media, sculpting, in fact anything creative) being respected and valued

Anything you’d add? I’m sure there’s plenty I’ve left out.

Take Care,

Antony
