You Dirty Dancing Ghost

By TV, Online Streaming & FilmsNo Comments

Patrick Swayze, the actor in the iconic film Dirty Dancing and actor in Ghost has died of pancreatic cancer. Dirty Dancing was a film I was introduced as a child and loved. This particular song always jumps in to my mind when I hear someone mention Dirty Dancing:

So many people have had their first dance at their weddings to this song. Indeed both the film and music have inspired a great number of people.

Believe it or not, I only recently saw the film Ghost on the bbc, I instantly loved it. Fantastic idea, good script and brilliant acting. (It also stared my faviourate comedian/actor/author Whoopi Goldberg.)

The tributes have been coming in from his colleagues in the industry:

Jennifer Grey, who co-starred with Swayze in Dirty Dancing led the tributes, releasing a statement that said: “Patrick was a rare and beautiful combination of raw masculinity and amazing grace.

“Gorgeous and strong, he was a real cowboy with a tender heart. He was fearless and insisted on always doing his own stunts, so it was not surprising to me that the war he waged on his cancer was so courageous and dignified.”

And:

Whoopi Goldberg, who also appeared in Ghost, said: “Patrick was a really good man, a funny man and one to whom I owe much that I can’t ever repay. I believe in Ghost’s message, so he’ll always be near.”

It was also interesting to read:

The 1990 film Ghost cemented Swayze as a favourite. It was an even bigger hit than Dirty Dancing, with a domestic box office take of more than $217m, and $505m around the world.

Who’d of thought?

So…

His dancing was fantastic and there’s something weirdly attractive about him, don’t you think?

Oh…don’t forget it’s a double bill of X Factor this week, it’s on both Saturday and Sunday!

Take care,

District 9 Film Review

By Friends & Family, Reviews, TV, Online Streaming & FilmsNo Comments

GJ and I went watching District 9 at the weekend. Before going we looked at the reviews. It’s the story of a mother ship stopping over Johannesburg, South Africa. After being unable to communicate with the ship they decide to board it and find some rather malnurished aliens (that kindof look like giant insects). They fly them down to a protected area on the surface and it quickly becomes a lawless slum.

Wikus van de Merwe is head of MNU (Multinational United) is incharge of relocating the aliens from the orignal surface site to another consentration camp looking site. But then he gets infected with alien DNA – required to work alien technology (such as the alien weapons). He starts to become what he hates a shrimp (negative term used by humans to describe the aliens). The special effects throughout the film are fantastic.

Wikus goes on the run and meets Christopher (an alien) who says he can change him back human if he can get to the mother ship. It becomes werid (but good) sci fi heartwarming story that makes you feel for Christopher, his rather cute looking son and the rest of the aliens wanting to go home.

I would give it 3 stars out of 5. Although it had a good story line, fantastic effects, it was some what unmemoriable. I wouldn’t be rushing to buy it on DVD.

Afterwards GJ came to mine for a brew. We had an intense conversation about emotions. What is it with men at the moment? Are they trying to completely confuse both my heart and mind?

Write soon,

Antony

Big Brother finally comes to an end

By TV, Online Streaming & FilmsNo Comments

The big brother finale was on Friday, I was gutted that Rodrego came 5th and even more shocked that Charlie didn’t win (he came 4th). However in the end I was glad that Sophie did as she was lovely.

According to The Guardian Big Brother is to be axed after poor viewing figures. I think it’s about time. Although I enjoy it as a people watcher, it has become too strung out and too “the same as last year”.

Fairwell Big Brother, I shall be looking forward to the final series before you depart from our screens
