Don’t shop at Dwell

By Rants, ShoppingNo Comments

Simon and I had time this weekend to nip to Dwell to buy The Cabinet.

We got in to the store, none in stock. So I said to the sales assisant that I would have to buy online. I ordered online and while in the hair dressers got a text saying I needed to call them about my order. I called and my card had been rejected because it has a different address than the delivery address.

My options where:
1. Send my bank statement with new address on to the company
2. Go and pay in store

They said for fraud reasons they couldn’t deliver to an address that wasn’t registered with the card unless I did it in person. It seems mad to me! When do people tend to buy new furniture? When they move house. I haven’t had chance to change my address yet, but it is my mums address so I still get my statements.

So I ended up going all the way back to the store (40 mins drive). I asked to speak to the manager. It seems he spoke to me about the cabinet in the morning (the person I thought was the sales assistant). Why didn’t he offer me the option to order in store, in the morning? I bloodly would have taken it. It would have been less hastle – than going home to order online. He gives me a half hearted apology that’s boarderline rude. He suggests that it’s my fault at once for coming in to store to try and avoid delivery charges (which where £40!).

This is how they could of handled it better:
1. The manager should have offered me the option to order in store in the morning (so I didn’t end up coming back!)
2. Online it should have stated in the ordering process that the delivery address had to match the card address
3. The manager should have offered some sort of discount to compensate the fact that I had to drive back to the store in the afternoon (which would have been unnecessary if he had followed point 1).

I am a loyal customer to a company that provides good customer service. But I am sorry Dwell, you have messed up. I shall not be coming back to your store. And I shall be writing a letter to this effect. So if you take my advice, don’t shop at dwell.

Rant Completed,

Bloody WordPress

By Rants, The WebNo Comments

Hi All,

You may have had problems accessing my blog in the last few days. Bloody WordPress! I updated the software and it created an error. After a few days surfing the web, I finally found the fix. To remove the spaces at the end of one file.

I am pleased to announce that it’s back to normal.

The dreded BT

By Rants, Technology2 Comments

I placed an order for a phone line and broadband online with BT. I had no choice than to go with BT as I needed a phone line “installing”. They were suppose to be coming to install a line (at a charge of £125!) on my birthday (14th May 09). By “install” they mean flick a switch on the green box outside. I waited and waited but they did not turn up (or bother to let me know).

So I rang them and they stated the order is “stuck” in the system. Whilst on my Blackberry Storm to them they couldn’t hear me and I couldn’t hear them. They asked me if I had a land line they could call me back on. My response: “If I had a land line, would I be ringing you to have one installed?” Honestly sometimes the stupidity of BT staff amaze me.

The order was replaced after several broken conversations and they finally managed to come out today, install a line and post out my BT Hub (that also arrived today).

Prior to this suffering from Internet Withdrawl, I decided to get Mobile Broadband. I saw an 02 dongle and picked it up. Can you believe that it didn’t pick up a single wireless network? I took it back and got a 3 dongle, worked like a charm. Well done to three for beating 02 on signal (I have to admit, that I never saw that coming in a million years!).

Meanwhile, in my on-going struggle with technology I still couldn’t have a clear conversation with anyone on my Blackberry Storm. So I took it in to the shop, guess what the problem is? It needs a software upgrade, only the handset wont allow me to do it. So it has been sent off to the repair centre for something that should be able to be done at home.

My advice:

  • Avoid BT were ever possible – they are the biggest communication company, yet can not communicate amoungst themselves.
  • Don’t buy a 02 Mobile Broadband dongle it wont have converage, buy Three Mobile Broadband.
  • Don’t buy a Blackberry Storm, all I am hearing (and experiencing) is endless problems with the hand set.

    Rant over,

  • Susan Boyle on Britain’s Got Talent

By Rants, TV, Online Streaming & FilmsNo Comments

I don’t really watch Britain’s Got Talent, but David does. And he told me of Susan Boyle and that I had to watch her performance on youtube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxPZh4AnWyk. So I did. I was amazed by what I saw.

Both the audiance and judges prejudged her based on her looks and a two questions from judges prior to her singing. I was amazed by her voice, as were the audiance and judges.

But then it struck me…when did we stop appreciating the talent of singer, more focused on the looks or life style of the singer?

I wish it could be like it used to be. When singers were appreciated for their talent. Perhaps Susan Boyle has started this shift, as she doesn’t look like a typical singer. Yet her talent is outstanding and it is expected she will win Britain’s Got Talent and go on to be a worldwide best seller (according to BBC News
